I use them to apply Hardwax Oil (Osmo). Great as it won't scratch wood but not so fine that it clogs easily. A little sand is actually good for any residual wood dust problem, even if I blew the surface off with an air compressor. Great for my application and use in terms of functionality and price compared to custom finish liners. I cut each individual pad into small 2x2 squares for use on the go. As soon as one gets too dirty or nasty, I switch to another clean one. If you want to polish them I can't comment on their function, but they have not scratched any wood I've worked with, including the softer Alaskan Yellow Cedar.
