Wrong grit - hand tool

I already had a 1000/6000 sharp stone. I bought this set of finer grit to bring some very old, dull knives back to life. I was also hoping to use an 8000 grit stone on my husband's straight razor. I was very disappointed when I unpacked them. Either they are cheap or this company uses a different standard for measuring grit. The 8000 stone in this set felt rougher than the 1000 stone I already had. I tried them anyway (just in case they needed a little water or rubbing to bring them up to scratch) but even after going through all the grits (400-1000-3000-8000) mine was fine Knife not as sharp as me. I'm used to it. So I took the same knife and ran it over my old, sharp 1000 stone, which according to the law of grit should dull it. On the contrary, it turned out sharper. That means my 1000 was finer than the 8000 in this set. incredibly disappointing. I will still use them to attack really dull knives. But I always have to round them off with my old sharp stone when I want to give them sharpness.
