Review on Norpro 50-Piece Recyclable Bags for Enhanced Eco-Friendly Use by Russell Anh

Revainrating 3 out of 5

The misleading description implies that the packaging can be composted. You are not!

I was looking for "compostable" packaging and found this product, in addition to being marked as "customers also bought". Item along with the compost bin I purchased. I figured the bags were biodegradable material and would break down in my garden composter, albeit perhaps more slowly than food waste. I didn't research them thoroughly enough before clicking the one-click buy button. After making the purchase, I found that the bags are only recyclable/compostable with the chemical additives that waste disposal companies add to speed up decomposition. You have to go to the manufacturer's website to find out about their composition. I should have read about it before buying, I admit. I feel the description is intentionally vague to mislead buyers and I'm disappointed in that. The only positive is that the bags are really durable. I can pack a lot, but coffee grounds etc. can make a full bag quite heavy, which can warp or break a less durable model. However, I would trade the tear strength for an actual biodegradable bag any day.

Pros
  • ISAB and OPI approved.
Cons
  • Packaging is ugly
