I needed good knives but I bought this one mainly for the block. This glass and stainless steel block is stunning, beautiful and makes more sense than any other knife storage I've seen. First, the blades rest on nothing. Unlike traditional wooden blocks, it is very easy to clean. Just remove the top brace, unscrew the tops of the braces and it will fall apart. Unlike the magnetic strip, the blades are locked in so they can be safely removed from their position. The knives themselves? For Thanksgiving, I made turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, zucchini, nine pies, 80 bacon and onion buns, and a few other dishes. The knives worked like magic. They are very sharp but if you handle them carefully they will do the job for you. I don't put them in the dishwasher but use some Dawn and a sponge and wipe them down and let them air dry before putting them back in the block. These are the best knives and block I have ever owned.
