Review on ๐Ÿ”ฅ KOTTO Solder Smoke Absorber: Efficient Fume Extractor Fan for Soldering Station - A Must-Have DIY Working Tool by Scott King

Revainrating 3 out of 5

You get what you pay for. It doesn't protect you from lead, it just "absorbs " it at a distance of 2 inches

The fan is pretty quiet and durable and well built. Nice. I can't think of what it would actually be effective for, but it's not effective for lead soldering. Two inches is NOT a long distance. I had to mount this fan on top of the part I was soldering so it was close enough to "absorb" the smoke. I see through a charcoal filter. I doubt he actually "picked up" anything, but only a blood test will tell. What I've learned so far: The most expensive filters can filter particles as small as 0.1 microns. Lead, smoke, viruses and mold spores can be about this size and maybe less as far as I know. Considering the price and my astute observation skills (i.e. holding the filter up to the light and looking through gaping holes) I really doubt this carbon filter can absorb anything even 10x more. After some careful and lengthy research I will create my own. If you solder with lead or other heavy metals, do your research. protect yourself
