It does exactly what it says on the tin and does it well. It blocks the transfer of cold from beneath you to your body, allowing your body heat to warm the area between it and your blanket. What it doesn't do is add heat. It's not the same as an electric blanket. If you want extra warmth, take one of these. But it's very effective at blocking heat from both the cold surface and the cold air or even the cold dampness beneath you. It is also a very well made, high quality pillow. I bought a second one in case the first one broke but it's still in great condition.
