I followed the instructions and after installation I waited 72 hours before using this device. The 3M adhesive pad still works well. I have an Otter Box phone case. The magnet was too weak in the rubber boot, but the connection is very strong when the magnet is attached to the back of the rubber boot. In fact, I'm concerned that the connection is so strong that if I pull too hard I might dislodge the mount from the dashboard, so I very gently hold the mount with one hand while I pull the phone off the magnet with the other hand .
