Not for gravity feed in carburetor engines

I knew about this, but I tried anyway, and sometimes it worked. I leave the water pump running in the pasture and I'm tired of filling the tank with fuel every hour. I bought it to place well above the engine so it could be powered by the carburetor under gravity allowing it to run unattended for hours. I also bought a manual intake bulb, built-in gas fuel filter, and fuel shut-off ball valve. In short, the engine would have stalled in about 15 minutes. I noticed the fuel filter (clear plastic) was empty so I tried priming it and positioning it at the bottom of the loop to keep it filled. After a while the engine still stopped. I noticed the primer bulb was empty when I started priming, so I figured the check valve was bad and removed it. The engine died anyway. I made sure all the components were full of gas, that the 1/4" hose would flow freely with gas, and it still died. Conclusion: microbubbles in the hose and components that cannot be completely removed migrate and accumulate over time in the hose at the top of the tank due to engine vibration, and when enough had accumulated to reach the 1/4" ID hose, the "suction" was cut off and fuel would not flow more. I managed to avoid this once and it worked fine for several hours, but that's almost impossible. Carburettor engines require a tank with a bottom outlet, engines with gasoline pumps that provide the necessary suction are not as affected. DOH! has a gasket and lock nut so you can use it as a watertight bulkhead fitting) and fixed it to the side of the tank closer to the bottom --- now works fine all day. Not NFPA approved, but now it works!
