The riser design is imperfect.

WARNING: DO NOT buy this if you are mounting studio equipment on the end of the pole, the main vertical column is simply not designed to support any more weight than a reflector or AC flash without a modifier. It's not a "heavyweight" stand for studio use, and the $109 price cuts through in the cut corners. I will point out the three main disadvantages. READ NUMBER #3 if you read any of my reviews. This is a breach of the deal. 1.) There are tricky shims on the crank heads and some slippage. For $109 I could live with that or replace the grips. 2.) The grip heads will scratch the pin on the grip. Either the set screws have a bad burr in the heads, or the screw is soft as it all comes out, but the damage is visible in the photo above. I had metal shavings on the top of the stand after just a few days of use. 3.) But the rack itself has a serious design problem. The baby needle at the top is simply screwed into the threaded aluminum tube. It took about 2 weeks for the pen to start shaking. After removing the pin I found that it was sealed with something like red Loctite glue. Worst of all, after attaching the pin, the thread kept slipping. This resulted in severe deformation of the upper rack, which is made from aluminum tubing. Soon the tip of the riser became oval rather than round and could no longer hold a baby pin. The worst thing is that the tube cannot be welded since it is made of aluminum. Even if you can't afford Matthews, Kupo, Savage, Flashpoint, etc., spend the extra $50 and buy an all-steel Chinese clone. I have another jinbei for $170 and it works like a charm.

Pros
  • Great Design
Cons

When sturdiness is a factor in deciding what stand to use, this stand is right for you.
