The kit contains everything you need to set up an air pump in a smaller aquarium install, I would say up to 8 gallons. This is the second I've bought as I have two 3 gallon tanks in my office and the self contained air pumps (the size of a computer mouse) are just too loud and reverberate like an idle tractor. Not this one! If, like me, you are sensitive to noise, I would recommend this little pump. I had no problems with the first one and had it for several years. IF you install the pump and it hangs below the water level BE SURE to install a valve to prevent water from entering the air pump. Instructions are included and there is one side you attach to the air pump flow and the other side goes to the air outlet. Not difficult! This air pump doesn't have a regulator to reduce airflow to the bubbler, but you don't need one. In my opinion, this is the ideal amount of air. I recommend and your fish will thank you!
