Here's what everyone else got wrong: 1) It collapsed when I put my head on it. - Well of course it's not a coarse foam, it's a very fine pored foam and it's designed to work with an air line, not a print head. 2) There is no suction. - Wrong! I held it just above the surface of the water with the snorkel and the water spilled over the top of the snorkel, so. Unless it's a magical filter that creates water out of thin air, the water that flows out MUST be water that flows through foam. 3) It floats and I have to put a rock on it to keep it. - Yes, ahh, try squeezing the air out first as you know it's a SPONGE. He squeezed mine until the blisters stopped and she sank like a lead weight. 4) disaster. Will never filter properly with a circulation pump and a design flaw will cause back pressure that can burn out the pump. - lol okay. I have the cheapest whisper pump and it works great. I don't know where your degree in airflow engineering came from. 5) Only lasted less than 2 months. What a waste of money. - Since it probably takes that long for the sponge filter to colonize with bacteria and mature, yes. 6) Killed my fish. - No, what killed your fish was you were relying on a brand new filter that didn't have any live bacteria on it yet and you didn't change out your aquarium. It has to cycle. Learn more about cycling. Google "Looped Aquarium" before you rant a $5 sponge filter. As for the bad reviews about the missing parts, I can't speak to them. All the parts were there with mine. And I've been using Jemco sponge filters for 20 years so I was skeptical about them. I chose it because I use black sand and a black background while Jemco's is light gray. The only reason I switched. I will say that they are noisy as they do not have an air stone. My solution was to use a different air pump that eliminated the resonant hum produced by the powerful pump I had first. There is a video on YouTube modifying them to work with Aeroston if you don't like the design. Maybe I will in the future, but I doubt it. I prefer to sit back and enjoy watching my fish.
