The paddle broke on the 4th stroke in the water. Calm sea, no wind and I wasn't aggressive with it. The place where the upper pole enters the second pole is broken. I have another paddle (different brand) but I wanted to have a backup. I've been using another paddle regularly for several months (and been rougher on it) and have never had a problem - not even a stress fracture. I would suggest trying a different brand - it's not worth the risk you'll have the same experience as me. On the plus side, it disassembles into three parts for easy portability.
