I used a grade of carbon in my tanks (just picked up this hobby again after a twenty year hiatus) that didn't sit well with me - it just didn't purify water, mediocre At best it removes odors - and my wife has a bloodhound nose - she can't stand smelly tanks - I've read very good reviews of this much finer grain of carbon from water experts (Premium Carbon) - it's very fine sand like coal. So I bought him these pocket filters and they work really well. Large mesh pockets are also great for large media. Fine-meshed pockets allow significant water flow while retaining fine-grained carbon within them. The water is crystal clear and my wife's nose is happy. We all know what that means - one happy wife - one safe tank - lol.
