Review on 🚡 Sram MTB Gx Type 2.1 Long Cage Rear Derailleur: High-Performance Gear Shifting for Mountain Bikes by Paul Curd

Rear derailleur keeps failing

Loved the 12th row when needed. I hate that I just destroyed my fourth derailleur - they are as tender as a child's back. Never had a problem with the 1x11 groupset installed on my hardtail. What I don't understand is why the derailleur hanger didn't even work and protect the damn thing. I trace the problems back to: 1. Operator error when shifting too hard? (again never had a problem with years on 1x11) 2nd branch hit right into lower sprocket cage - bent3. Can't remember but bent again so upgraded to 'stronger' XO4 component class. Who knows, maybe the broken knitting needle is already back in the cage, twisted like hell and rubbing against the knitting needles. The store didn't know if the switch broke the spoke or vice versa. So we are looking for a replacement for the entire set. I can't spend $150-$220 every 6 months.

Pros
  • 12 tooth X-Sync pulleys offer the highest performance and durability, help with chain idling and have grooves to clear mud
Cons
  • So far so good
