Updated 2/27/19 I received a response from Shine For Dogs after contacting them about my second broken collar. I shared with them my concerns about the battery case/charging port design (as explained below in my original review) and asked if they were working on any of these issues or planning a redesign. They responded that they would refund my second purchase, but did not answer my questions, acknowledge my concerns, or acknowledge an issue with their product. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this collar for shelter dogs. I would rather donate the money I saved by buying the best collar directly to the local animal shelter, not to mention saving landfill space. 1 star for the collar itself (durable, won't fray). I found another collar from Masbrill on the Revain that is basically the same as this one except the battery compartment/charging port is much better designed and lasts forever. Therefore, to help our puppies stay safe, I would contact this company. First Review: Yes, this collar is a great product for any family that has their dog outside at night. It is bright, adjustable and rechargeable compared to changing batteries. BUT. It does not take long. I bought 2 of these in less than a year. The second didn't last more than an hour on a charge, despite charging it all day and only turning it on when outside. He died less than a month later. I contacted Shine For Dogs and they kindly provided me with a new one for free. That was at the end of November, now he's dead, less than 3 months later. I'm all for keeping my dog (and the neighbors driving down the street!) safe by not using tons of batteries and supporting animals from a shelter, but I'd also like a product that lasts. I don't think these collars were misused and broke as a result. I believe they have a serious design flaw. The button/battery compartment and charging port are poorly designed. The cable cannot be easily disconnected after charging. I feel like I sometimes rip the cords out of the collar when I try to pull it out. I think this is what caused the connection to fail on the last collar I received. It only charges if I hold it a certain way while connected. The battery cable is also exposed! That was the problem with our first. After 6 months of use they were worn out and separated. I contacted Shine For Dogs again last week about these issues and still haven't heard from them other than that they need my Revain order number to proceed. All in all, I wanted it to work. We rely on such a product, but now I have to use another brand. At this point, I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who has active animals that go outside constantly, or someone who doesn't want to constantly fill up landfills. Maybe I'll try again if the design changes.
