It directs the water as it should.
I had to extend the return to my 150 gallon tank that we use as a turtle tank. This set was perfect in every way. That was enough to get to the water, which is only halfway to the tank. By orienting the outlet horizontally instead of vertically, the gravel at the bottom of the tank is not disturbed and the water flows from the right side of the tank to the left side where the filter inlet is located.
