If you have children or pets. Do not buy! It's not safe! So I bought them to light up our garden. The plan was to stretch them across the patio and connect them with the fences on either side. At 100 feet, we had more than enough length for that. However, when they arrived we found that the bulbs were not only in a separate box, but were small glass bulbs. they explode when they break. I'm talking about the light bulb exploding from an old Christmas tree ornament. with crackling and broken glass everywhere. We broke 17 lightbulbs trying to light these lanterns. Some of the bulbs broke because the line fell on the ground, others just broke because we weren't setting the line "carefully" enough. they all exploded. which created a lot of potential injury problems (fortunately neither my husband nor I were hurt, although one exploded right at our feet and hit us both in the face. No damage thank goodness). In the end we gave up trying to hang them. There wasn't a good way to attach them to the fence. and after a few broken lightbulbs it was obvious that they would pose a hazard in high winds or if they moved through something. The onion strand was excellent, quite strong, not very easy to hang but well done. All in all it was bulbs for us, we will look for stronger bulbs for the chain as we broke 17 bulbs trying to hang them up and I don't think the manufacturer will take them back for 17 bulbs less. Waste of money, absolutely not meant to be outside.
