Shoelaces Were Fake Laces (perfect for preschoolers who are new to tying their own laces) . But despite the fact that the length was ok, the shoes were a little tight at the heel and in the hole. Because of this, it was painful for my son to put shoes on his foot, and when they were put on, he complained that his heel hurt. He has rather narrow feet and has never had a problem with them so I would say they are not for kids whose shoes are always tight. The chip is beautiful little shoes.
