Review on Yale Assure Lock - Satin Nickel Keypad Door Lock by Adam Gechem

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great device paired with the August Connect module for HomeKit integration!

I've installed several Yale Assure bars as well as other brands of HomeKit-enabled smart locks and this is by far my favorite! The black finish is very smooth and pairs well with our matte black hardware. If you want to control this with your smartphone, you need the Connected by August kit for the HomeKit integration. Alternatively, you can get the Yale Assure Lock SL with the August Connect, which are the same two pieces packaged in a larger box and cost $80-$90 more. To install this lock you must completely remove and replace the existing deadbolt. . This is usually done with a Phillips screwdriver and is a very simple process that takes 2 minutes. Once removed, a tapered Yale Assure latch is installed in the door and a latch placed around it. After installing so many of them, it takes me less than 2 minutes to complete these steps. It contains the required four AA batteries and I suggest replacing them with Li-ion batteries when they run out. The next part may require more work depending on how well the deadbolt aligns with the handle latch and how well the door seals when closed. I suggest trying the latch on an existing striker plate to see how it works before making any changes. I've found that I often have to adjust the handle strike plate so that it clicks into place when the door is pressed firmly against the seal - this usually requires a chisel to physically move the handle strike plate. Then install the new bolt striking plate in such a way that it does not collide with the bolt latch. This step is important because if the bolt rubs against the firing pin, it will at best cause premature wear of the battery, and at worst cause it to jam. Once that is complete, you can sit back and enjoy the beauty and simplicity of the Yale Assure Lock SL. . I really like that this lock has no key access. There are some options you can set on this device such as: B. Volume up (including shutdown) and one-touch lock where you just have to touch the keyboard with your hand to lock the latch - such a time saver when you're out! installed the Connected by August module (sold separately) and this allows me to control it directly from my iPhone via the August app for iOS and HomeKit. In the August app, I set up geofencing to unlock when I get home. From HomeKit, I use "Hey Siri" on my iPhone or Apple Watch to unlock the latch. I should note that I also own the 4th Gen Wi-Fi Smart Lock and prefer this Yale lock WAY over this one. Yale Assure Lock SL just works better (more reliable Wi-Fi) and gives me the option to unlock with the keyboard.

Pros
  • Upgrade to Wi-Fi with Yale Access: Just use your keyboard for now, and upgrade to Smart Lock when you're ready. Our Yale Access Upgrade Kit (sold separately) lets you use your phone as a key.
Cons
  • Very expensive
