Review on πŸ”§ Lightweight Hakko 508-1 Soldering Iron by Jay Ngo

Revainrating 5 out of 5

An excellent iron for beginners and professionals.

Excellent iron. For the same price as some other low quality entry-level irons, you get an extremely high quality iron. The tip is ideal for working with PCB through holes as well as large interconnects. It heats up from room temperature to a sufficient temperature to melt lead solder in under a minute, unlike some crappy irons that take forever to heat up. A few things to watch out for. It comes with a spare tip (two tips total). It also comes with a small amount of solder wick which should be more than enough for a beginner desolderer. The oil used to assemble the iron will burn out after a minute, so don't be alarmed by the slight crackle and smoke when you first turn it on. Finally, the screw that holds the tip increases the width of the iron. The iron is quite small so it may not fit in some soldering iron holders. (Bring a metal file to the screw to fix this)

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Slightly wrinkled
