I've been buying solder from Home Depot for years. Has always worked great, never had any problems. Then it started not working as it should. No matter how much I clean the ends. I couldn't tin them. It just bubbled up at the top and didn't cover. Even with new advice. I did the same with wires. I've been looking for the best soldering for months. Among other things, I found a Kester. Dropped out of the group I was looking at, this Kester would be the one. Ordered this kit and was surprised that it was a pound and the price was cheap compared to the amount I got from Home Depot. It's also thinner. Like the solder that came with the soldering gun. Took my solder and my gun. Heat up the gun and try tinning it. And away we go! Then I took the cables and checked. Runs well and clean, holds up great. Haven't had any problems with soldering yet. I do not expect. I don't think it takes much heat to melt it. I keep my gun close, but it seems to me that even there it's too hot. To find out, you need to measure the temperature. You don't really have to clean up the solder afterwards, and you don't have to use flux (unless you want to too). If you are looking for a replacement. I recommend trying this one!
