Review on Borogo Watercraft Replacement Steering Accessories by Eric Pruett

Additional function doesn't work, only the steering wheel assembly

I wouldn't call it universal. *can* work on most kayaks. I restored a cheap sea kayak. A 16 foot Chinook to be exact and I didn't want to spend $200 on a collar just yet as I wasn't sure how much handlebars would be needed in my area. 1. Shaft is too short. It needs to be about 1 inch longer to fit most kayaks. I've tightened mine up enough to be secure, but I don't necessarily like it when it's as loose as I should have let it be. Second, the rope that comes with it isn't long enough to use as a pullback line. Yes my kayak is one of the longest types but with the line in this kit I doubt it will work properly with a 12ft kayak so I got my own paracord and was able to do it. Finally, and this is probably the biggest concern I have, since this is for people who don't already have a kayak mount, the mount that came with mine will not fit the stem of the handlebar. I didn't need this mount but thought about it for a short time until I looked at it and realized the mount was too big for the shaft to go all the way through and also too narrow for the reel use. So it looks like the entire mount that came with it was a mismatch of parts. It wasn't the cheapest option, and it certainly wasn't expensive, but I at least expected something versatile to be a lot bigger. Universal.

Pros
  • Annual trial period
Cons
  • Doesn't fit everything
