Review on High Definition Planar Helium PCT2435 Monitor with HDMI Connectivity - Model 997-9363-00 by Rodney Pellito

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I am happy with the purchase

This is a quick review of the Planar Helium PCT2785 27" Widescreen Touch Monitor. I work in an office in an office. This review is done within the first 2 hours of use. I give this monitor a 9 out of 10. If I get an older If I use a computer without a 20-pin display port, I might give it a 7 because I was expecting a more TV-like sound. If you have external speakers, the sound isn't a problem Overall I'm happy with the purchase Pros • The monitor is big and beautiful and drew a lot of people into my booth • The touchscreen works with both Windows 7 and Windows 8 It was amazing • Installation was EASY!n-play with my HP Folio 9470m All I had to do was was to connect it • The speakers are suitable when using a 20-pin DisplayPort cable to connect a monitor Speakers are not suitable when using the supplied audio cable • For visually impaired right click Desktop > Personalize > Display > 150% works very well on this 27 inch monitor. • Replacing my old monitor and monitor stand with a new one with an integrated stand has freed up a lot of desk space for me, although this monitor is larger the stand allows it to sit further on my desk. • I use a wireless keyboard and they look and work great together. • This monitor also works in a VMware environment. I was hoping for this but was concerned when I hit the buy button. Cons • The stand requires the monitor to be placed at an angle, which greatly increases glare from overhead lights. I believe the monitor can be wall mounted but I work in a booth so this is unlikely. • Two cables are required to connect this monitor. The first cable that powers the screen (VGA or HDMI or DisplayPort) and the second cable (USB) that powers the touch functions. So you must have a USB port open. • The volume of the monitor was too low to be heard with the 3.55mm audio cable, whether I connected it to the headphone output or the line out on my PC. When I switched to a DisplayPort cable to connect my monitor (as opposed to a VGA cable) and didn't use an audio cable, the audio was adequate. Maybe there's a setting I'm missing. • The webcam itself is fine. However, due to the use of a stand for the monitor, the fixed camera tends to face up. So the video, as others see it, is more of a talking head without much body and a big ceiling. If I raise my chair unusually high, the video looks better, but the computer becomes more difficult to use. • The speakers are located on the back of the monitor, so you don't have a viewing experience. I may be wrong in my expectations but when I looked it up on the internet I was under the impression that this monitor is like a 27 inch flat panel. Neither for nor against • I need to figure out how to right-click on a touchscreen. This is a matter of user education, but it underscores the fact that you probably don't want to give up the mouse entirely. After an hour of use, I found that I was using both the touchscreen and the mouse. • Aside from pointing out the obvious, the guide doesn't tell you much. • There is an application called "Tablet PC Input Panel". It allows you to "write" with your finger in cursive or block letters on the screen. Very cool but not very useful for those who can type. • Like all touch devices, I can smudge icons with my fingers, specifically the "x" box in the upper-right corner of most application windows, minimize, restore, and close. Normal app icons are no problem. • I can't remember if pinching with five fingers closes a window on Apple products or on my son's Windows 8 laptop. When I tried it on the monitor, it worked like a normal pinch, causing the text in the Window I was working on was caused to shrink.

Pros
  • New
Cons
  • Bad contrast
