I tested this by putting the key fob in the box, going into the car, holding the box to the ignition button and trying to start the car. He does what he has to do. The car will not receive a signal until you take it out of the box. It also comes with a small keychain pouch that easily fits in your pocket/purse. It works just as well. As long as this key fob is in the pocket, the car cannot pick it up. But when you take it out, the machine reads it. So if you're worried about hijackers reading/scanning your key fob while you're at home or in close proximity, I recommend buying one of these. Only suggestion: if you want to buy it for your phone, choose the largest size. The size of my phone (with case) is approximately 3" × 6 1/2" and it doesn't fit.
