Review on πŸ”„ Holder for Changing Turning Facing - Model 250-201 by Elvis Bragg

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great product, well finished, works great, the adjusting screws are not so good.

I bought 3 of these a few weeks ago. I've just bought 3 more, they are well made and the price is the best I've found. They fit well. They are great for mounting and adjusting tools for quick changes. I highly recommend it. The only negative about them (and this applies to all their brands) is the rather marginal adjustment screws that come with the kit. First, they are much longer than necessary. Second, they have an odd end, the last 1/4 inch or so is unthreaded. It doesn't matter if you use 1/2" shank tools in the holder, but with 5/8" shank tools it means the set screw is far enough away that only half the threads (of that probably marginal steel in first place), increasing the likelihood of stripping the threads of the screw or retainer if over-tightened. Third, the hex head is poorly formed with edge steel so it's very easy to either round off the inside or open them up with a hex wrench once they're tightened. I have a couple dozen of these 250-201/202 holders and have replaced the set screws on almost all of them, especially when using 5/8" shank tools. I've never had any problems with any of the holders. UPDATE APRIL 2020: Please note that the current version of these holders now have inch mounts. . Therefore the 17mm spanner and 4mm hex wrench for the previous versions will not work in these newer versions and you will need to keep the new wrench set close to your lathe.
