Who would have thought that buying a new diffuser hairdryer would be so difficult! I did a lot of research. I chose this one because I was intrigued by the large diffuser - it's the biggest I've ever seen! I thought I would put all my hair in one giant bowl and it would be amazing! And they said rear venting is a new trending design technology - and I can't resist the science! Unfortunately there are several serious problems with the diffuser: 1. The diffuser has huge ventilation holes. Why is this a problem? Because it doesn't actually exhaust air! It's basically just blowing air through a giant opening, like you don't even have a diffuser. The diffuser is designed so the air is DIFFERENT so it doesn't blow all over your curls. It is designed to give dry hair a gentler airflow and distribute a powerful airflow that can break up curls and create frizz. But the holes aren't small enough to actually disperse air.2. The diffuser has huge vents on the back of the diffuser (like the bottom of the "bowl"). The other diffusers are massive at the rear. Do you want to know why? Because otherwise all the air will escape at the back before it gets to the hair! This means it takes much longer to actually dry the hair because half the air exits at the back. It makes no sense. (Honestly, I'd love to know her reasons for this snazzy new design.) 3. This is the worst part: It actually causes more frizz! When you place the diffuser at the back of your head, the air escaping through the vents at the back of your head blows over your curls. Goodbye curls, hello curls. For reference: I have thin wavy curls. Shoulder length (not a ton of hair). Maybe this whole design will work for a different hair type (I can't imagine who. But maybe). Also, to be honest, I only bought this blow dryer because of the fancy new diffuser (and because the blow dryer itself meets all my other needs based on my research). Fan is ok. I actually thought about just buying an alternative (regular!) diffuser compatible with a hair dryer, but ended up just giving it to someone (who doesn't have curls and doesn't need a diffuser). Anyway, here's what I can tell you about it: 1. It's longer than most hair dryers. The implication is that when you hold the hair dryer away from your head (which you must do with diffuse drying your hair), your hand is farther away. Not a big deal, but it makes it a little awkward.2. Heavy compared to other hair dryers. I know this because I currently have six hair dryers at home (long story). You probably wouldn't notice if you didn't have six hair dryers in your house to compare. But the weight, combined with the awkward position of keeping it off your head, can cause discomfort. Especially if you have literally no upper body strength like I do.3. It didn't get too hot, which I appreciated. Low, medium and high temperatures are accurate (unlike some dryers where medium is hot and high is scalded). This is a huge plus and another endorsement of the hair dryer itself. In summary: if you spray, you will have to refuse. But if all you need is a decent hair dryer, then go for it.
