I love this water bottle and so does my 4 year old son. I wanted a stainless steel mug because I try to avoid plastic as much as possible, not only for health reasons but also because plastic takes on the smell/taste of dish soap, which is awful. I've had other stainless steel water bottles with silicone straws in the past and those straws have also absorbed detergent odors, but so far this bottle hasn't. When I washed it in the dishwasher for the first time, I disassembled all the parts of the lid, which was difficult and tedious. But since I only pour water into this cup, the last few times I washed it, I didn't take the lid off and everything seems fine. I'll probably take it apart from time to time to make sure there's no dirt inside. I always taste the water before giving it to my son and the water doesn't taste or smell like detergent so I'm happy. My son can open and close it himself. The part you're sucking on looks crystal clear in the product photo, but is more opaque in person.
