Review on Makita GD0603 Compact Die Grinder by Andrew Grant

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Step back. for die grinders

This is my third or fourth Makita die grinder; I use them so often that the bearings wear out after 5-10 years. This new one is a step backwards. The collective train system is MUCH less user-friendly; My old one is easy to tighten and loosen since the main nut has six sides. The new one only has TWO sides. Have you ever tried to get some sort of leverage on a nut that only has two sides? That is the actual problem; and how much did they save on production costs? Probably 0.20 cents. Worse, it just doesn't have the same quality; The bearings on the new ones just don't have the silky smooth sound and feel that the new Makita grinder used to have. I used to be a big fan of Makita tools but now I'm looking at DeWalt or Milwaukee.

Pros
  • Round collet nut to avoid damaging/scratching work piece
Cons
  • No instructions
