I was already filling it with water when I read in the instructions that it needs distilled water. Not exactly a deal breaker, but I thought you should know. My guess is that distilled water doesn't have the sediment that some municipal water systems have, so use whatever water you feel is best. "Tap water" may shorten the life of this humidifier. All in all it did the job, made the air in my bedroom less dry and I woke up in a good mood. It's not a "whole house" system, but it's just right for a medium-sized bedroom. I would suggest the manufacturer a different water box design that allows for a snap-in design to reduce the likelihood of water getting in everywhere if the car tips over. As expected, the water box just sits on top, doesn't snap/snag. So if the car overturns, water will splash all over the table. Keep that in mind when deciding where to place it.
