I bought two of these drives in March or 2018, they failed in October. I used one as a library of my important files and the second was a backup of the first. I didn't set it up as a raid, just made a copy of the floppy once a month. So while one disc was used continuously, the other was only recorded 8 times! Yes, I wrote a lot of information, but these drives weren't supposed to fail in less than a year, but both failed within a month. The used one started making loud clicks constantly. I immediately connected it to the second and ordered a replacement. The first hard drive failed while I was waiting to swap hard drives. As soon as removable drives became available, I copied the files from the backup drive and then tried formatting the backup and only using it to store movies. I copied all of my movie files to it, but when I did that, only half of the files were on the newly formatted drive. I tried twice more to copy files to it but after completion no files were received but there was no file transfer error report. So I did a low-level format (complete), but the format failed to complete. I've tried several times and it still didn't work. I contacted Toshiba support through their website. I did not get an answer. I tried again but still didn't get a response about my failed hard drives so I called and was told I would need to send pictures of the drives before I could get an RMA number. They emailed me the required information form, I sent the requested photos and information and waited and waited and waited, after a week with no confirmation and no RMA number I called and spoke to someone who claimed they could get my E -seeing emails as they go to the tech pool but there was no reply, i was starting to get frustrated because the person on the line acted like it was no big deal and it wasn't his job anyway, and he hung up. He emailed me with RMA numbers so I shipped the discs insured through USPS. The day the USPS announced the discs had arrived, I tried to find the RMA numbers on their website. The first showed it hadn't been received yet, and the second showed it wasn't valid. There was no second RMA number that matched mine. I emailed the person who sent the RMA numbers and asked if they could find out why the second number was invalid even though they hadn't even received the discs yet. I DID NOT RECEIVE AN ANSWER OF COURSE. Then I get an email from a technician stating that a hard drive arrived damaged with an invalid RMA number. They kindly offered to destroy the disc without replacement and sent a photo of the damage (see photo) claiming it arrived that way, on an invalid RMA. I replied that I have pictures of the discs (at their request) and that I have insured the discs because of the way they have handled it so far, so as such I will have to return them if they are broken, they have not answered. . The next day I get another email from the same technician saying the drive is broken and do I want Toshiba to destroy it or send it back. received no reply. The next day I get another email saying the drive is corrupt and... I called and asked to speak to the idiot. He was unavailable but called me back. He did so and in conversation admitted that he had received my emails but I didn't ask for the discs to be returned but his manager told him they couldn't actually return my disc. WOW! I sent him my previous emails and also highlighted the part where I asked for the discs to be returned, the first line of the first email I sent him and deep in the body of the second and I asked to speak to the manager. , he indicated that they were all gone over the weekend and unavailable. I asked him to call me on Monday, of course they didn't. I then went online and looked at all sorts of emails for everyone on Toshiba.com including from their website and I forwarded all the conversations, situations and emails I had sent and received including one that did all contained my hard drive return requests as responses. from the technician, which proves that he has received my requests several times and has replied several times. Again, I haven't heard from anyone at Toshiba. I gave it a week and finally got an email saying they were returning my disc. Received it today and it's broken as they claimed but it wasn't broken before I sent it out and the crack is fresh. Also how breaking a piece of plastic causes the drive to make a loud clicking noise as they claimed the main drive was broken. The drive was mounted ONCE and removed ONCE. I'm a programmer from the 1970's and have built hundreds of computers. I have never overlooked a broken belt guide through installation or removal. All this for a $160 drive that should last at least two years (actual warranty). The fact that both failed in less than a year and one failed after only being written eight times and never read before being replaced! I may have just been unlucky to get two bad drives at once, but the way Toshiba handled the whole process meant I never bought their products again and I've always told people they should buy their products because they are reliable. NEVER AGAIN. TOSHIBA IS NOT AVAILABLE WITH CUSTOMER SUPPORT. These drives are obviously a problem, otherwise they wouldn't be working so hard to avoid having to replace another one. In 2018, I bought at least $3,000 worth of Toshiba products. I have been using their products happily for over twenty years and this is actually the FIRST time I have had to contact them because one of their products broke. But I will never deal with their support staff again, which means I will never buy any of their products again, even though they have a history of 95% reliability with me. I don't want to go through loops like this again. No more Toshiba TVs, I have 3 of them, no more Toshiba laptops, bought one for my great grandniece in October. I have always bought Toshiba for my daughter who is now 25 and buys things for herself. Toshiba hard drives are gone, I bought at least five from Revain in 2018. NEVER AGAIN!
