I had my doubts after reading the reviews but I doubted every option I read about to prevent two 12ft runners with kids and a labrador from slipping. I tried them out and initially ordered a pack, just placing one underlay on the corners of each rug. It worked fine for the first two months before COVID, but when we started working from home and the "office" door was right in front of these runners, the pads couldn't handle the daily traffic and dogs. sat in this room now and burst out every time he heard someone walking by outside (which was often at a moment when everyone was home). So I removed the spacers (the bottom hardwood wasn't damaged and I had trouble removing just one spacer from the back of the runner but it didn't break anything). But I thought there was potential here, so I ordered again, this time with a surcharge, and now put the overlays in the corners and also in the middle, especially right in front of the door to the hall. Since then I haven't had any trouble running or moving - not walking, not having a dog wade through, not vacuuming carpets.
