Review on Radio receiver Sangean WR-45 white by Bali ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I really like the product, it fully meets my expectations.

The “pipe” towering above the body of the device is by no means only a tribute to retro aesthetics and design effects, which in themselves can cause a desire to own such a thing. It also has a practical purpose, which ultimately gives the main aesthetic effect, which is expressed in the character and quality of the sound. This is a low-frequency horn that provides, without exaggeration, amazing depth and control in the “bass” range for a device of this size. Relying on an unexpectedly solid low-frequency basis for such a kid, the sound of the WR-45 as a whole acquires fullness and warmth, which I have not yet heard from "portable" acoustics. And although formally it has the same power as the "sevens" WR and DDR, the sound of the 45th is felt as more massive. And at the same time - as more comfortable, allowing you to listen to it for as long as you like. And when you stop admiring the receiver and look the other way, you generally forget that a device that belongs to the category of portable sounds in the room, and not acoustics five times larger in size. Having inherited from the WR-7 and DDR-7 the confidence of FM reception enviable for an antenna hidden in the case and the same confident reception of a signal via Bluetooth at an impressive distance from the source, the WR-45 has made a serious step forward in sound quality. Which makes it for me the best desktop and bedside radio to date and the best mobile speaker for sounding a phone, tablet, or laptop. A nice souvenir is attached to the device - its toy copy, reduced by ten times, on a Velcro stand. But if one day Sangean releases a real device of such a meager size that plays just as well, or even better, I won't be surprised. Miracles, of course, do not happen. But, as with children, there are portable devices that behave just like adults. And among their producers - those who persistently strive for this.

Pros
  • The device combines two advantages that are characteristic of almost all Sangean products. The first is the sound, which in its naturalness and scale greatly exceeds the standard expectations from mobile devices. The second is an elegant and completely non-standard design by the utilitarian standards of today's audio equipment, which makes you want to collect models of this company in the same way as you can collect vintage equipment. Which is what I personally do. In addition, thanks to this dignity, you, puzzling over how to choose an original gift, and stumble upon such a “souvenir”, understand that a solution has been found.
Cons
  • I have no complaints about the device. But to find fault, if you wish, you can do anything. If we set such a goal in relation to the WR-45, then perhaps someone will find it a disadvantage that the most striking feature of its design - a horn stylized as a gramophone tube - deprives the model of the real portability that its small-sized predecessors, the Sangean WR-7, have and DDR-7. You can easily take them with you anywhere, even putting them in a small bag, or just in a jacket pocket. With the WR-45, this number will not work. Its horn requires great care when transporting the model and rather translates it into the category of stationary in terms of use. But unconditional portability in this case is sacrificed to the same unconditional progress in terms of sound quality.
