Not a bad idea, but not well executed

This device is intended to lock the thermostat in the open position in the event a catastrophic failure of the cooling system, such as a ruptured hose, will cause the temperature to rise to the level where the wax inside the actuator comes out, allowing the spring tension to lock the thermostat. It might be a good idea, but the internet is full of stories about these things shutting down at what is considered normal operating temperature. warm up completely. Then you have to replace it, which wastes about a gallon and a half of coolant in a Jag XK engine. In all my years of owning old cars, the only problem I've ever encountered was the thermostat of unknown age in a '70 Cadillac stuck and closed overnight. This is really more of a problem for me. The next day I was driving the car and it overheated on the freeway. Such a device would have done nothing in this situation. Like I said, an interesting idea, but not very well executed. Just maintain your cooling system, use a good quality regular thermostat and replace it regularly. This is a return.
