I have a 5 or 6 year old monitor with a DVI input and a VGA input. I used the DVI input with my home desktop. Now that I'm working from home I need to connect my work laptop to a monitor and am tired of swapping cables from the back of the monitor. With this adapter I can connect the display port output of my desktop PC to the VGA input of my monitor. And I already have an HDMI to DVI cable that I use to connect my laptop to a different port on the monitor. I read online that using this type of cable degrades the picture quality since VGA is analog not digital. But I don't notice any difference. I have a 1680x1050 monitor, everything is fine. Maybe DVI-VGA no longer has this problem? Or maybe the problem only occurs with certain graphics cards or monitors from certain brands. Anyway, I'm glad I got a clear picture with this cable.
