Review on ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ ASICS Gel-Kayano 27 Men's Running Shoes by Justin Herman

Great fit and function

I've been wearing ASICS shoes for over 30 years although they weren't exclusive. But even when I wore sneakers from other brands like Brooks, New Balance or Hoka, they had design issues that made me return to ASICS. To be clear, I'm not an elite runner, but I enjoy running. In the last ten years I have run several marathons, half marathons and 10 km. So shoes, fit, cushioning and durability are important to me. I didn't like the Kayano 25 and I'm thinking maybe the 23 and have gone for a different shoe in these iterations. However, I liked the Kayano 26 so much that I have had two pairs over the past few years. But I had to buy a new pair and was concerned whether I would like the 27s or not. When I saw them on sale because the 28th will be here next month I wondered if I should take the plunge and happily settled on a pair. I got a pair on Thursday and rode 11-12 miles. run on a mixture of asphalt, concrete and a school track on Friday morning. I wanted to try them out, so to speak, and see if I had to return them. I was stunned by how much I liked her. The write-off for me is huge - I want as much as I can get. I'm well into 60 and have developed ankle/achilles tendonitis. This is a fairly common injury for many runners, and I gave up long runs after finishing the Seattle marathon in December 2019 - and we all know what happened next. Run my first half marathon on my Kayano 26s in March of this year. Everything is fine BUT after putting them on and walking I was surprised I didn't have ankle pain or other small pains like shin or knee. Maybe because the shoes are new and the heel cushioning is great. The shoes are true to size, comfortable and easy to lace up. The ankle support in the back of the shoe is also excellent - better than I imagined. If you're a casual to serious runner, these ASICS are for you. Although I've sized the shoe up a half size a few times, I prefer true-to-size sizing and recommend doing so for most runners. One small change in the design of the shoe that I thought might be crucial for me wasn't - the descent from midfoot to toe is steeper than typical ASICS. This is why I stayed away from New Balance shoes. However, it wasn't as deep and may actually have improved comfort and performance. Again these are great shoes - good luck finding the right fit!
