This item installs easily on any generic motherboard, one with easily accessible power button pins and a power LED. There's not much to do with something like Dell, but it can still be done! Take your multimeter to continuous mode, locate the power switch in your computer (it's often on a small daughter board or something), flip it over and check the pins (usually 4 of them) on the back of the switch to make sure it's working determine which one is shorted out when you press the power button. Then solder some wires to these pins and connect them to this switch, voila, everything works great! I've done this with a few computers and the power button usually has enough meat on the pin to solder it on. Not as many as I've found with a power LED. It's usually so small and the solder joint so small that I can't glue a wire to it, so I mostly just use it for power, not a power indicator. The device itself seems a bit pricey as you can get a larger red round for half the price, but this device takes up less desk space so I think that makes up for it.
