I bought this to store my 10ft kayak and so I can easily lower it onto my car roof without manually raising it. I found the directions a bit confusing. The parts were not identified, just numbered, but they were identified by name in the instructions so it wasn't clear which was which. Also, some parts were unused so I don't know what they were for. The manual recommended putting the pulleys 6 feet apart, but since my kayak was only 10 feet long, the straps just slipped off the ends of the kayak. I had to connect the straps under the kayak, like in a cradle, and then everything worked out.
