I had only had this item a week when I noticed cat pee leaking under the metal bowl and piling up on the mat. I washed the rug with detergent and water pressure but the urine stain remained and is visible by turning the rug upside down. The smell of urine also stays in the mat. Just in case, I put a rug under the mat; it also smells like urine, but at least I was able to wash it and get rid of the smell. I threw away the carpet. The vinyl sheets surrounding the trays also retain the smell of urine despite being rinsed off with a hose and detergent. The legs holding the panels in place also allow urine to collect inside, and the smell lingers even after soaking in bleach. And the bottom of the metal pan is already stained/rusted. I had to scrub with a sponge. I don't bother with a return, what a hassle. What I did was put the vinyl records in kitchen garbage bags so they didn't get wet. And put another kitchen bag under the pot to keep urine from seeping onto the carpet. After a few days I change all the plastic bags and soak my feet in bleach. And I take the metal pot outside and scrape the rust off the bottom of the pot. I've had this part for about 3 weeks and it's more work than any cat pan I've ever had. .The only reason I'm upping my rating from 1 star to 2 is because the pan is easy to scoop. .
