This is an update of a previous review First of all let me say again that I love this hood, I've had it for a little over 3 months now. Here is a summary of what I like and dislike about this hood and why I only gave it 4 stars. I first bought it because of the built in face shield, it's very comfortable so I don't wear it all the time. Take it off to put on the face shield, then put it back on and so on. When I welded the plates it really saved me a lot of trouble as I was constantly grinding and turning the welds. So for convenience I like it very much. Now for the problems, I've read in other reviews that it's too heavy, in fact it's pretty light. (This is my third hood and I had the heavier one) What makes it so heavy is the center of gravity on it. This is just a foreword, it will have a big impact on your neck. But after 2 days I got used to it and it doesn't bother me anymore. Some people just seem like babies who don't want to get used to it and go back to their old hood. However, your results may vary, so use caution. In addition, the headdress leaves a lot to be desired. It has no padding in the back, just a sweatband in the front, it's NOT uncomfortable, but given that this hood sells for around $200 you'd think it comes with a Miller Generation 2 headgear. ( I only recently switched to headgear, and since I bought the hood here on Amazon for less than $150, I still think I got a good deal.) Third, it's a much bigger problem with the sensors, i think it was the third day I had this when I got flashed, not once, not twice, but three times in Miller's famous X mode. The first time this happened I welded a 3g open root perpendicularly down onto the root passage, luckily the arc was shooting from behind so I wasn't blinded so I stop immediately and increase the sensitivity but it happens again so I turned the sensitivity to max and the lens flickers instead of just glowing and stays that way. Finally I switched to welding mode and stopped welding. Miller sent me a new lens but it doesn't really work any better as the moment the new one was installed it was flashed a few more times. According to Miller, flashing in X mode should be all but impossible because it detects the arc's magnetic field to disable the lens. So if you're out of position or out of sight of the arc you shouldn't be flashed, but as I said I've been several times. So now I mostly use weld mode, but it's horribly sensitive to bright light, so sometimes I switch back to x (but xmode can still turn itself off of bright light and extraneous arcs, again Miller claims this shouldn't happen, but this is true ). ) Finally, as I said in my old review, the main question is "Would you buy this hood again?" and despite its problems, I say yes, I would buy it again. I recommend this to welding students and hobbyists who do or need to do a lot of grinding and twisting the wire between welds. The reason for this is that you are still getting a quality hood at a reasonable price that will last a long time, as opposed to a cheap hardware store hood that breaks after heavy use (mine broke after less than 3 months of light use). two cents, I hope this was helpful and informative. And I'll post a photo of the hood along with a project I've been working on.
