Back in 2012 I bought a Makita BHP454 LXT 1/2 inch 18V lithium-ion cordless hammer drill. I really liked him. I've done things it probably wasn't designed for (sometimes I've worked so hard that the air coming out of the cooling vents was HOT after the 4Ah battery was fully drained) without lifting my finger from the trigger take, perform heavy grinding or hammering) concrete drilling). Anyway, last month my beloved old Makita's dynamic braking mechanism started to wobble a bit when the trigger was released. That, and I spilled a small can of paint in the charger last year, so I had to spend 90 minutes taking the charger apart and peeling off the paint that was blocking the charger vents and tape the fan on to keep it from spinning could turn . With that history of abuse and recent changes to the dynamic behavior of the brakes, I had reason to look for a new one. At first I was worried because they don't make this model anymore, I couldn't even find it on e-bay. (I really liked that old drill) - so I tried this one. What a surprise, the top speed is much higher, the speed control is just as smooth, the barrel is shorter for some reason, but they still have my favorite hammer, torque settings for screws and a normal lock for drill settings. (The bonus was 2 original Makita 5AH batteries and a new charger). I've been using it extensively for a few weeks now and I think I'm liking it even more. The shorter body sometimes comes in handy in tight spaces (I've been doing a lot of furniture assembly lately). Would definitely recommend and maybe buy more to give to my sons. Good product.
