Review on Efficient Pocket-Hole Plug Cutter by Kreg: Creating Perfectly Concealed Joints by Bob Berry

Revainrating 3 out of 5

The packaging was good. The bit comes in a protective case.

Packaging was good. The bit comes in a protective case that allows the locking ring to stay in place when stored. My first use resulted in a cut with some chips on the top and right side of the connector. This was partly caused by drilling too fast (REDUCED CUTTING SPEED) and the second reason was the use of a vacuum nozzle. (MUST USE VACUUM SETTING). When this was done, the quality of the cut improved significantly. There was still a small burr on the top and right edge of the cork. This drill stands proud when fully inserted into a pocket and disappears when sanded flush. PROBLEM. When the workpiece was clamped in my K5 jig and I started drilling, I noticed the left side of the workpiece was going up. I made several pressure adjustments to the K5 until it stopped. I felt that the pressure required was too high and the jig began to creak under pressure. The problem turned out to be that there wasn't enough surface area on the drill press to hold the workpiece in place while fighting the drilling torque. SOLUTION. I cut out a piece of 100 grit sandpaper and taped it to the outside of the cork cutter. Now that the workpiece was pressed against the cork cutter, the workpiece remained secure. With the K5 I was able to reduce the clamping force. HAPPY HAPPY With the problems and procedures afterwards, the cork cutter now has 5 stars *****Roger Klein
