My 8 year old radar detector's power cord found an internal break near the plug. Using a soldering iron and electrical tape, I attached the cable in about 15 minutes. You saved over $12 buying a new power cord from the manufacturer and now you have a replacement plug. If you're soldering connections like I am, I suggest you first form hooks from adjacent wires and crimp them together for a mechanical connection before soldering so the solder isn't easily compromised.
