Cheap Table Fan Materials

I just assembled and tested my new Decobreeze fan on a covered porch. The extension tube was trapped at the bottom and I had to completely disassemble the floor to get it out. During removal, the riser of the extension was scratched at the factory. The materials used here are not up to the standards of a $200 fan; The metal construction is very thin steel with a thin coat of paint they call "all weather paint". Aren't all colors, except watercolors, waterproof? Once assembled, the fan tilted to one side so I only had to pull on the top to bend and straighten the thin metal baseplate. It generates a lot of air pressure, but the fan blades have a very small pitch (less than I've ever seen in conventional fan blades), and the motor compensates by spinning them very quickly, making more noise in the process; nothing like the fans of yesteryear. The resin base, which looks like copper and brass in my case, completes the look and gives it a retro look from afar. I don't expect the fan to be as weatherproof as advertised; "Wet rating" depends more than anything on the GFI box at the end of the cable. The time will show.
