This thing is amazing and I can even hear some sounds of songs I didn't hear on my more expensive TEAC like the bell in "Born on the Bayou". I like two modes, DAC and PreAmp. I only use it in a DAC and it drives one of two tube amps and I have to say it's a great buy at $129! I have the silver one and it gets power from a larger USB power adapter (2.1 amp connector) rather than the computer's lame USB port. I suggest you do the same as others have also reported a better "bump" as voltage and current are "there" for that. When I'm not using headphones, I unplug the RCA jacks and plug in a larger tube amp that powers the subwoofer with its line out and some precious Sony speakers. I don't see any change in this attitude in the near future! It's a bit like a bassie/muddy with a headphone setup, and that's because of the Bravo headphone amp/headphone amp combo. The highs come when I switch it to a larger amp/speaker combo, so it's not a DAC. I'm damn happy with this DAC! To update. My computer didn't recognize this after about 3 weeks of flawless operation for some reason. I uninstalled and reinstalled it with a version of the previous driver and now it's back online. Hmmm
