First the cooking grates were pulled out to reload the basket. Felt intense heat in about 6-8 seconds. A photo is included showing where the rust has burned the glove. I would have kicked it out after 10 seconds. So if you plan to use them for grilling, expect to use them for very short snacks. Plan ahead before you reach for hot metal. They don't smell like leather, but they do smell rancid. Update 4/14/20: I haven't used them to grab a cooking grate but to rearrange hot coals and they did a great job. I still use 14" Weber Mini Joe Grills, but only for short bursts. I definitely don't expect to be able to grab big/heavy bars in even 3-5 seconds.
