Review on Olympus E 9-18mm f/4.0-5.6 Zuiko Lens: Versatile Wide-Angle Option for Olympus DSLR Cameras by Joseph Swanson

Good enough for my camera and photo

As a hobbyist, I almost never buy new digital photographic equipment, but this was an exception. This lens always seems to have been in short supply and to be honest I'm just tired of waiting for it to hit the used market. Revain had the best price on this lens of any reliable supplier I could find and to complete my modest system before the Christmas holidays I bought it. Compared to my 14-54 and 50-200, this lens feels a bit light physically. in its construction for me. I wouldn't call it flimsy, but obviously the build quality isn't on the same level as high-end sealed lenses. I don't find this to be a particular disadvantage, at least in my case, if handled with reasonable care. I'm using a lens on an E1 body and I don't see a noticeable difference in image quality between this lens and others I own. I fitted an anti-UV filter to this lens and could not detect any sign of vignetting in the images I took. There is some distortion at the wide end, but that doesn't bother me. In general I am satisfied with the purchase.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • The list will be long.
