Not a total disappointment. What I really like about these shoes is their old school look, which is why I and probably most people buy these shoes. The shoes ran wider than I expected, given that they were marked M. As someone with very wide Hobbit-like feet (hair included), I was quite surprised when they actually fitted well. The heel of the shoe sits comfortably on the back of my ankles and doesn't chafe, but my toes pinched slightly when I took a step and the shoe arched inward. This will most likely go away if I break them any more. But what disappointed me the most was the fact that the soles of these shoes are just terrible. After walking for just a few minutes, I felt like I had been jumping on an iron block for almost eternity. So I bought a pair of $14 gel insoles, put them right on top of the sole and tried it out. Instead of feeling like angry Mongolians are beating my feet painfully with bamboo, my feet feel like they have their own heavenly cushions to walk on. When you buy these shoes they will not be sneakers, they are more for show and some comfort, not athletic wear. But at the very least, I advise you to find a pair of gel pads that will fit you after you buy them.
