Ready to use - sturdy but not too heavy and I'm a small woman. No build up. No one. Put it on my narrow shelf and then put my big tv/stand on the turntable. And voila! Done and perfect. Now I can watch TV without moving the shelf it's on. What could be a disaster. I just had to make sure the stand/shelf was a few inches from the wall to accommodate the changing angle. My 21 inch rectangular version that I bought was perfect and matched the furniture well. My friend was impressed too.
