Can't understand what's up with all the negative reviews. I was in the middle of nowhere in the Pacific Northwest and every signal I sent out worked. The idea is that every time you press OK, Spot will send a signal for 20 minutes if you have a good view of the sky. It's not a very powerful device (it's not like instant texting), so of course you should just sit back and let it sit and work its magic. Also, you can't move by pressing the OK button, unsure about the tracking feature. It's nice to be able to tell my wife I'm fine and I don't have to worry if she thinks something is wrong etc. If you sign up for a subscription, make a notification in your Google Calendar/Outlook/anything to remind yourself next year, whether to give notice in writing, etc. clearly explained in the fine print. Obviously, SPOT doesn't want to be sued for terminating someone's service in the middle of an expedition because their contract is expiring, hence the automatic subscription. Look online for discount codes for free easy tracking etc. Also, GEOS 100k insurance is ONLY FOR YOURSELF, you will need to pay to add additional people to your accident insurance.
