This item makes an excellent gift. I bought this as a gift for my 7 year old who loves to build. Unfortunately, she has declared that she is too advanced a builder to LOVE her. However, she said that this is a very good gift for young children who appreciate the art of building. So it was passed on to my 5 year old niece who in turn loved, loved, loved it! Although it is very durable, one downside is the limited number of parts included. You need to buy more if you want to build all the cool structures shown in the guide. Still a good gift as a starter kit. Last but not least, the figures' magnetic attraction is strong enough to keep your 4-6 year old interested in hours of play!
